UK Fiancé Visa
If you are planning to marry a British citizen or permanent resident in the UK, you may be able to apply for a UK fiancé visa. Unlike other visas of this kind, you are not required to have lived together before applying for a UK fiancé visa. However, there are specific requirements that must be met before this visa can be issued, including:
• You and your sponsor must intend to get married within a six-month period;
• You must have met each other prior to the application;
• You and your sponsor must intend to live together permanently;
• The applicant must be able to support themselves or be supported by their partner without having to access public funds in the form of benefits;
• There must be adequate accommodation already in place, again without having to resort to public funding.
If you are successful in your application for a UK fiancé visa, you will be given a six-month visa allowing you to come to the UK and get married. You may not apply for or take work while on this temporary visa. Once you get married you must then apply for a spouse visa. If your application is successful, this will then allow you to live and work in the UK for two years.
If your marriage/civil partnership is still in place after this two year period, you may then apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which allows you to stay in the UK and ultimately apply for UK citizenship.
For more information on the UK fiancé visa please call us on 0203 291 2711 or complete the form at the bottom of this page.
