Tier 1 - Post Study Worker

The Tier 1 Post Study Worker visa (which replaced the International Graduate Scheme) is one of a collection of UK visas designed to allow international graduates from UK universities to remain in the country for two years after graduating, in order to gain work experience with UK companies.

It does not tie you to any specific employer, but if you wish to remain in the country after that period, you will be required to apply for either a Tier 1 (general) visa or for a Tier 2 visa in order to continue to live and work in the UK for a further five years. After this period, you may then be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and ultimately for UK citizenship.

To qualify for a Tier 1 Post Study visa, you must fulfil, amongst others, the following criteria:

• You must have completed a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, PhD,  Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma (including PGCE) from a recognised UK institute of higher education;
• You must be able to support yourself financially without accessing public funds (benefits);
• You must intend to work for the period during which your visa is valid;
• You must meet the English language ability requirements.

If the applicant has a dependent partner and/or minor children with them in the UK on their student visa, these dependents can be transferred onto the Tier 1 Post Study visa.
