Schengen Visa
A Schengen Visa is designed to allow travel between countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement, including all member states of the European Union. The Schengen signature countries include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithunia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Foreign citizens with valid residency permits in the UK may travel freely in the Schengen space for up to 90 days in a 6 month period as long as they hold valid recognised passports and valid Schengen visas.
Great Britain has not signed the Schengen Agreement, so even if you hold a permanent or temporary residency permit to reside in the UK, you may still need a visa in order to enter the Schengen zone.
A Schengen visa is applied for at the Embassy or Consulate of the Schengen country that you will be spending the most nights on your trip to the Schengen zone. If you are only visiting one country on your trip (for example France or Poland only) then the visa is applied for at the Consulate of this Schengen country.
A multiple entry Schengen visa will allow the holder several entries into the Schengen area, allowing you to return to the UK and then re-enter the Schengen area at a later date. Not all embassies issue multiple entry visas some prefer to only issue a single entry visa to cover you for the specific trip you are going on. If you are unsure as to your exact travel plans, it is best to speak to an immigration consultant who will be able to advise you on the type of Travel visa you will need.
You need to have at least three months left on you UK immigration visa at the time you return from your holiday. Also be aware that a Schengen visa does not guarantee the entry clearance into the Schengen zone.
