Australian Tourist Visa

With an Australian Tourist visa you can visit Australia for a holiday or recreation purposes. The Australian Tourist visa also allows you to visit Australia for other short-term purposes, including study, as long as it is for non-work related activities and is for a period of less than three months.

Depending on your personal circumstances and your reasons for visiting Australia, an Australian Tourist visa will allow you to stay in Australia for a period of three, six or 12 months.

You may also leave Australia and return on the same visa, as long as your total stay does not exceed the period of stay you have been granted - i.e. three, six or 12 months.

In order to qualify for the Australian Tourist visa, you must be able to show that your sole intention for visiting Australia is as a tourist, for recreation or to visit family/friends.

If you are currently in Australia and your Australian Tourist visa is about to expire, you can apply for a new one to extend your stay as long as you are still eligible and have not contravened the conditions of your previous visa.

You must apply for your new Australian Tourist visa at least 2 weeks before your current one is due to expire.

The Australian Tourist visa does not allow you to work during your stay in Australia.

As healthcare can be very expensive in Australia, it is also highly recommended that you obtain health insurance before you embark on your trip.

As with tourist visas for other countries, you must also be able to prove that you have sufficient funds to cover all subsistence and ongoing travel expenses during your visit.
