Intelligence officers prevent sham wedding from going ahead
A recent article on the UKBA website http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2009/october/officers-smash-bogus-marriage demonstrated how a team of UKBA immigration and intelligence officers used their astuteness to prevent a suspected sham wedding from going ahead. Seven people were arrested in the operation which happened at St.Pauls Church in Salford, six of the individuals were Nigerian nationals with the seventh a Dutch national.

Home Office battles to deny 'sham' marriages
The UK Government introduced a Certificate of Approval application and process in an attempt to prevent so called “bogus”, “sham” or “marriages of convenience”, allegedly entered into for the purpose of securing an immigration advantage.
