Sponsorship management system improvements
Following consultation with sponsors and feedback from key stakeholders the UKBA will be releasing a new set of enhancements for its sponsorship management system, a secure IT system which enables licensed sponsors to bring non-EU workers and students to the UK and then manage their stay when here.

Identity cards to be introduced to non – EU nationals in January 2010
From January 2010 non-EU nationals and dependents in the skilled category will receive an identity card when they successfully apply to extend their stay under Tier 2 in the UK, applications made inside of the UK on and after January 6th will also include an applicants biometric information. Non-EU migrants across other visa routes have already been asked to register details of their biometrics and acquire identity cards when applying to extend their stay in the UK

Introduction of approved English language tests for PBS Tier 1 & 2
The Scottish Qualifications Authority applied to have its application on the UKBA agency list of approved English language tests and following successful assessment the tier 1 and tier 2 lists have now been updated to include this.

Important changes for sponsors under the Points-based System
UKBA recently published revised guidance for employers and educational institutions sponsoring non EU nationals under the PBS and for the first time education providers are able to use the sponsorship management system.

Tier 4 Student Visa update
From October 1st, for all Tier 4 applications made outside of the UK, the amounts required to meet the maintenance criteria must be held in your personal or your parent(s)/legal guardian’s bank account for a minimum period of 28 days prior to making your visa application.

UK Points-based system visas – Tier 2 changes to be introduced
On the 11th September the UK Border Agency (UKBA) announced that it would be introducing recommendations made by MAC (Migration Advisory Committee) that will tighten up the rules controlling when skilled workers are allowed to take jobs in the UK under the Points-Based System.
