Primark 'sweatshop' claims
14th January, 2009
Manchester Evening News revealed on sunday that TNS Knitwear, a Manchester-based fashion factory that supplies Primark with 20,000 garments every week, was accused of employing illegal immigrants and paying them just over half the current minimum wage.
The allegations surfaced after an undercover journalist revealed TNS had admitted to exploiting illegal workers. Employees had also complained of 12-hour days and seven-day working weeks. Both the UK Border Agency and Primark have launched investigations as a result of the allegations.
