MAC’s recommendations to reconsider suitable qualifications for Tier 1
18th December, 2009
Earlier this year the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) was tasked by the UK Government with reviewing the different routes into the UK market for non-EU migrants.
In a report earlier this month MAC made recommendations with regard to the retention of Tier 1 skilled workers giving an opportunity for highly skilled individuals to enter the UK and work. The report also advised that a suitable professional qualification in addition to an undergraduate degree would be recognised as the equivalent to a Masters degree and in some cases individuals claiming that their degrees are equivalent to a Masters degree will also be given consideration on an individual basis.
Marius Debeer, immigration officer at Smooth commented: "By opening up the routes of entry onto the UK Tier 1 general visa the UK is able to address the shortages of some interim niche professionals in the UK at present."
