Identity cards to be introduced to non – EU nationals in January 2010
18th December, 2009
From January 2010 non-EU nationals and dependents in the skilled category will receive an identity card when they successfully apply to extend their stay under Tier 2 in the UK, applications made inside of the UK on and after January 6th will also include an applicants biometric information. Non-EU migrants across other visa routes have already been asked to register details of their biometrics and acquire identity cards when applying to extend their stay in the UK.
UKBA and Immigration Officer Phil Woolas commented:
- There are currently 11 Home Office biometric enrolment centres around the UK and non EU nationals can book appointments at these centres either online or by telephone.
- Postal applicants living within certain postcodes now have the option of choosing to enrol their biometrics at a limited number of Crown post offices across the UK. This has been introduced as a trial walk-in service but is currently only available to applicants who have received an invitation to attend.
