Aussies welcome UK visa clampdown

16th February, 2009

The Press Association has reported that the clampdown on overseas players gaining entry visas to play in the UK's Super League has been welcomed by Australia's National Rugby League (NRL).

The commission has recently rejected applications from Greg Eastwood, Michael Crocker, Todd Carney and Greg Bird.

NRL chief executive David Gallop said: "It's just a further reminder that it's no longer necessarily easy to take up that option of finding a club in the UK. And it's a definite reminder of what the consequences are for not keeping your nose clean or stepping out of line."
